Moto2 & Moto3, Grand Prix Commission: Session format, price and engine freeze for 2025

The Grand Prix Commission, composed of MM. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, President), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Biense Bierma (MSMA), in the presence of Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Webb (IRTA, Secretary of the Meeting), Corrado Cecchinelli (Director of Technology), Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Paul King (FIM CCR Director) and Dominique Hebrard (FIM CTI Technical Manager), during meetings held throughout September 2024, took the following decisions:

Moto2™ and Moto3™ Sporting Regulations

– In force from 2025.

. 1.3, 1.15. 1.16 Format of sessions
Following the success of the new format in the MotoGP™ class providing a balance between Q2 entry and track time for teams and riders to work on settings, the session structure for Moto2 and Moto3 will change to Establish consistency between Grand Prix classes. Thus, the Moto2 and Moto3 classes will have two free practice sessions which do not count for entry into Q2 and a practice session on Friday afternoon which will decide who enters Q2.

Art. 1.18.19 Procedure in the event of rain on the starting grid
The procedure in the event of rain on the starting grid for the Moto2 and Moto3 categories will be aligned with that of MotoGP in order to create consistency between the Grand Prix categories. In the event of rain on the grid in Moto2 or Moto3, the bikes will now be pushed into the pit lane to make adjustments.

Technical regulations for the Moto2 and Moto3 categories

– Entry into force in 2025

Art. 2.6.3.2.23 Capping the price of Moto3 chassis and engines
After a fixed period of ten years, the price cap for the Moto3 rolling chassis and engine will be increased slightly to better balance cost increases currently borne only by manufacturers.

Art. 2.6 Moto3 spec freeze
Following the approval of a previous request from a manufacturer to improve its Moto3 engine, the specification freeze on all performance parts (engine and chassis) for Moto3 category machines has been extended until end of 2026.

Art. 2.5.2 Manufacturer test days within the framework of the Moto2 concession
The number of private test days allocated to Moto2 manufacturers benefiting from a concession has increased from seven to nine.
