The Lebanese writer and thinker, Dr. Mustafa Hegazy, passed away today at the age of 88. He was one of the most famous psychologists and mental health experts.

Journalist Sayed Mahmoud posted on his page on the social networking site, “A pioneering Lebanese thinker passed away today, Dr. Mustafa Hijazi, the great psychologist and translator, author of many books that achieved rare popular success despite their high value, such as his two books (Social Backwardness is an Introduction to the Study of the Psychology of the Oppressed Man/The Psychology of the Wasted Man).” We had many sessions during the short period I lived in Bahrain, which always revealed his cheerful spirit, and I often had the opportunity to dialogue with him in the company of my dear teacher and friend, Dr. Shaker Abdul Hamid. They had a rare friendship and mutual appreciation.”

Mustafa Hegazy obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 1960, and in 1964 he traveled for a study visit in England to learn about adaptive child and youth care institutions, especially institutional treatment experiences.

In 1965, he obtained a diploma in clinical criminology from the University of in , then obtained a doctorate in psychology from the same university.

Among his famous books are (Psychology and Globalization, Unleashing the Energies of Life, and The Culture of the Arab Child between Westernization and Authenticity).
