Luuk de Jong dropped out of PSV – Sparta Rotterdam (2-1) on Saturday with an ugly head injury. Immediately afterwards, Hugo Borst wonders what happens to the striker’s brain after a career of heading and heading duels.

De Jong sustained the head wound, from which a lot of blood came out, after resting during a header duel. The PSV captain was treated on the field by the medical staff, but still retreated. Ricardo Pepi replaced De Jong in the final phase in Eindhoven.

”It looked ugly. You hope that it remains just a few scratches and that no damage remains for later,” Maurice Steijn opens the item about De Jong in Of Eretribune. “But I’m always very hesitant about those heads against each other.”

“It is scientifically interesting how he develops after his career, with the damage that has been sustained,” Borst adds. “And now you actually have to see how the progress is every year, in a negative sense that is.”

”If I were him I would do tests. And that is also extremely interesting for scientists,” said the journalist, who saw ‘his’ Sparta lose 2-1 to PSV despite a good match in the Philips Stadium.

”This man has headed an unprecedented amount. You could also get it from a boxer. But De Jong certainly qualifies for that,” said the curious Borst.

De Jong signed beautifully, and with the outside of his foot, for PSV’s 2-1. The home club saw Matteo Dams go off with a straight red card after the break, but managed to get the three points by hanging and strangling.
