Dortmund. Jürgen Klopp was BVB coach again for one afternoon. Afterwards he became emotional and talked about a possible return to the sidelines.

Long after the final whistle Jurgen Klopp once again in front of the Dortmund South Stand. The two-time championship coach of Borussia Dortmund did what he always did: He clenched his fist and hurled it at the fans several times. They responded with loud cheers. The “Pöhler”, as it was written on Jürgen Klopp’s cap again that day, thanked them, visibly moved, by taking the cap off his head in front of the “South” for the last time in an appreciative gesture. Everything just like it used to be.

“It was very special. We all have only the best memories of the whole time. ‘Kuba’ was there from the start, Piszczek joined pretty quickly,” Klopp later recalled the most successful era in Dortmund’s recent club history. It was the Stuttgart native who celebrated the championship in 2011 and the double in 2012 with Borussia. “For me, a small lifelong dream came true. That’s how we always wanted to do it. Push everything, try everything and meet again at some point and look back with a big grin on our faces.”

Borussia Dortmund: In the end, Jürgen Klopp’s ambition took hold

Klopp should have the opportunity to do so on Saturday afternoon. At the farewell game for the two BVB legends Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub “Kuba” Blaszczykowski, he was on the sidelines as the coach of “Team Kuba”. The “Pöhler” was noticeably calm, although he has not lost his winning gene even during his current break. “He is still the same as he used to be,” confirmed Piszczek, with Blaszczykowski adding: “He has perhaps become a little calmer.”

But when it came to bringing the 5-4 lead to the finish, the champion Klopp came out again: “It was great to work without any pressure. And yet, in the end, we realized that we wanted to win. When the referee wanted to allow another attack, I asked him why.”

“Simply great”: Jürgen Klopp remembers successful time at Borussia Dortmund

Ultimately, the 57-year-old and his “Team Cuba” took home the 5:4 victory. But that was irrelevant in the end. “I must have met 150, 200 people that I hadn’t seen for a long time. We immediately remembered the time we spent together. There were definitely a lot of people in the audience who were there too. I had no doubt that the people were looking forward to seeing us and I was looking forward to seeing them. It was just great.”

After a night in which Piszczek said it was OK to stay late, Klopp will return to his private life, without a coaching job. Is he already itching to return to the sidelines again? “Nothing. The boys have substituted themselves in and out, so it’s fun.”
