Thierry Neuville won the Rally of Greece this Sunday. The Belgian had an almost perfect day and did very well in the championship.

Neuville took the lead on Saturday morning after taking advantage of the punctures of his teammates, Estonian Ott Tanak and Spaniard Dani Sordo, who were ahead of him in the standings on Friday. The Saint-Vithois controlled the situation in the afternoon, setting the third fastest time both in SS10 in Loutraki (12.9 km), 2.6 behind Tänak, and during the second pass by Aghii Theodori (25.87 km), 5.5 behind Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota). He then won the scratch of the short EKO SSS special (1.97 km).

“We are sticking to our plan and it is working”summed up Neuville after the last special. “You also need a bit of luck and that also applies to tomorrow. I hope we can still score some points after a difficult rally.” Neuville finished the day with a 53.7 lead over Sordo, 1:20.9 over Ogier and 3:19.2 over Tänak. Three special stages were contested this Sunday, including the Power Stage at Eleftherohori. The first two loops of the day allowed Neuville to manage his advantage.

The final loop turned things around again, with an accident for Sébastien Ogier, who rolled over the course. Neuville then controlled his advantage, taking fourth place in the Power Stage and Super Sunday. Overall victory for the Belgian, who puts himself in an extremely favourable position in the fight for the world title, since he has a 34-point lead over Tanak and 52 over Evans.

There are still three rounds to go.
