A final tribute to Maïté. The funeral of the famous entertainer and cook, who died on December 21 at the age of 86, took place this Thursday, December 26 in the town of Rion-des-Landes, where the one who stunned eels and handled game like no one had spent their life.

According to the local newspaper Sud-Ouest, more than 300 people were present during the ceremony, organized at the Saint-Barthélémy church, to say a final goodbye to the cook who hosted the show The Musketeers' Kitchen in the 90s.

If Maïté's family and loved ones made the trip, many residents of Rion-des-Landes also wanted to attend the funeral of the host.

During the ceremony one of Maïté's two granddaughters paid tribute to her grandmother. “She cooked to cheer us up (…) Eat, drink in her honor,” she said.

In another speech, Jean-Claude Sire, program director of France 3 Aquitaine from 1986 to 2000, also praised the authenticity of “the daughter of the Landes”.

“You will be able to invade the kitchens of paradise, the angels will feast,” he added.

Several guest books have been placed in the Saint-Barthélémy church. The ceremony then ended in music after two hours with a cover of the Gascon song Estelle de la mâsung by the artist and friend of Maïté, Michel Etcheverry.
