The Indonesian government plans to support laid-off workers through the Job Loss Insurance Program (JKP), which includes cash benefits of 60% of salary for five months, a training program worth 2 .4 million IDR (148 USD) and easy access to the pre-employment program, according to Indonesian Minister of Manpower Yassierli.

The official said the policy, which will come into effect from 1is January 2025, is part of Indonesia's strategy to improve people's well-being amid global economic challenges, and aims to ensure that workers who lose their jobs can still have purchasing power and opportunities to improve their skills.

In addition, the Indonesian government will also provide 50% subsidies for work injury insurance for labor-intensive industries.

The policy, which affects around 3.76 million workers in 110,000 companies across Indonesia, aims to ease the financial burden on companies, allowing them to retain more workers.

Yassirli assured that the Indonesian government's policy to increase the value-added tax (VAT) rate to 12 percent will not neglect the protection of workers, especially in the labor-intensive sector and those affected by dismissal.

With this measure, the Indonesian government seeks to maintain a balance between public revenue collection and social protection so that economic policies can impact all levels of society.
