A week after the evening of the CAF Awards 2024 which saw the award of the African Player of the Year prize commonly called “African Ballon d'Or”, the unfortunate finalist Serhou Guirassy is expected in Guinea.
After playing his last match of the year with Borussia Dortmund the day before in the league (1-3 victory against VfL Wolfsburg of his Algerian counterpart Mohamed Amoura), Serhou Guirassy will be in Guinea this Monday. This was announced by the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) in a press release on its official website.
The star center forward of Syli National (28 years old, 22 caps, 9 goals) will arrive at Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry aboard the Air flight France at 6:10 p.m. local time (GMT). He will be welcomed by the Guinean authorities accompanied by a delegation from the FGF, but also by the press invited by the body, and probably by the supporters who will make the trip in large numbers.
The reason for Guirassy's visit to Guinea
This is the former Rennais' first visit to the country since the Ballon d'Or final last Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, where Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) was preferredmaking three others unhappy: Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast, Brighton), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, PSG) and Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns).

The day after his disappointment, Guirassy had already expressed his gratitude to the Guinean people via his social networks for his “unfailing support”. He said he continued to give the best of himself for his country and “to inspire all young Guineans who dream big”.
