They called it Tryzub, Trident in French, in reference to a symbol used on the national coat of arms. The Ukrainian army claims to have a laser weapon capable of shooting down an aerial target about two kilometers away, very effective in neutralizing Russian drones.
On Monday, Vadym Sukharevskyi, commander of the Ukrainian unmanned systems forces, spoke for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, the use of this type of weapon on the battlefield, reported the agency of local press, Interfax, according to the Kyiv Post. “It really works, it really exists,” he argued, adding that efforts were being made to improve the scale and capabilities of the weapon.

Interviewed by CNN, Patrick Senft of Armament Research Services, a technical intelligence consultancy specializing in weapons research, believes that although little is known about the Tryzub system, “it is all entirely possible for Ukraine to develop a functional directed energy weapon [DEW] capable of destroying certain aerial targets.
