Our Expert's Pick of the Day: Two Options for You in the NHL

I don't regret taking a chance on the Bruins at high odds on Thursday. As anticipated, the match could have gone either way, so I still think it was worth trying a bet with such attractive odds on the Boston club. Unfortunately, they lost in overtime, after conceding a late goal to Connor McDavid in the third period.

Let’s bounce back on Friday with two betting suggestions in the National Hockey League!

PICK #1: More than 1.5 goals in the first period during the match between the Canadiens and the Red Wings

I believe that at least two goals will be scored in the opening period of the match between Montreal and Detroit.

Currently, the odds offered vary between 1.77 and 1.87. According to my mathematical model, we have an interesting bet at odds of 1.76 or more, so we have the green light to move forward.

Both teams have a porous defense. In terms of goals conceded per game, Montreal is second to last in the entire league, while Detroit ranks 24th.

Granted, their attacks aren't the best, but I still think we'll see some goals early in this match. The Wings' offense has perked up recently, as evidenced by their average of 4.25 goals per game in their last four meetings.

Last year, these Atlantic Division rivals faced each other four times. Let's take a look at the number of goals scored in the first half in these matches: 2, 3, 1 and 4.

This means we would have won 3 out of 4 bets. Let's hope the trend continues!

PICK #2: Over 2.5 shots on goal for Wyatt Johnston

The second choice is a bet on a player. I think Dallas Stars forward Wyatt Johnston will take over 2.5 shots on goal against the Rangers.

It's amazing how much New York has disappointed this season. So far, they have conceded the fourth most shots on goal per game. That's a good starting point for this bet, isn't it?

Now let's see how Johnston has fared recently. Let's imagine that we would have bet on the young 21-year-old center to exceed 2.5 shots in each of his games.

In December we would have had a poor record of 3-6. However, five of the six missed bets were reportedly due to him making exactly two shots.

In November, our record would have been 7-6, which is much better. But remember that the Rangers tend to give up a lot of shots to their opponents, which is why my math model and I suggest taking this bet.

In Saturday's edition, I'll feature some of my favorite bets for Week 16 of NFL action. I can't wait to share them with you!
