With 1,680 more inhabitants (1), Indre-et-Loire continues to gain inhabitants. According to official 2022 population data revealed by INSEE Centre-Val de Loire (2) this Thursday, December 19, 2024, Indre-et-Loire now has 616,330 inhabitants.
If the department believes, this is not the case for all the municipalities of Touraine.
Some have lost, between 2016 and 2022, up to 3% of their population. This is the case of Lémeré (-3.5%) and Brèches (-3.4%). Chanceaux-près-Loches (-2.8%), Braye-sous-Faye (-2.4%) and Candes-Saint-Martin (-2.5%).
These municipalities which are gaining residents
On the contrary, certain municipalities stand out with dynamic demographics: Vou (+ 3.3%), Crissay-sur-Manse (+ 2.7%), Pernay (+ 2.6%), Lerné (+ 2.6%) ), Lussault-sur-Loire (+ 2.4%), Saint-Aubin-le-Dépeint (+ 2.4%), Couesmes (+ 2.4%), Montbazon (+ 2.4%), Braye-sur-Maulne (+ 2.3%) and Avoine (+ 2.3%). They experienced the largest increases.
Note that the population of Tours increases by 0.3%. It is a little better than Orléans (+ 0.2%).

The choice of periods of population evolution
“The annual census method is based on five-year collection cycles. For more relevance, the data are therefore traditionally analyzed with an interval of five years”explains INSEE. And to add: “However, the evolution of the health situation has led to the annual census survey planned for 2021 being postponed until 2022.”
