Ukraine: Discussions on security guarantees between Zelensky, Rutte and European leaders

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and European leaders met on Wednesday to discuss immediate aid to Ukraine to support its war effort and long-term security guarantees.

Volodimir Zelensky told journalists on Wednesday that the discussions represented “a very good opportunity to address the issue of security guarantees (to be provided to) Ukraine today and tomorrow.”

Although European Union (EU) heads of state and government say they are focused on Ukraine’s immediate needs, some officials have begun discussing ways to ensure the security of the countries after the war, including a possible deployment of European troops.
