After a suspect was able to be identified thanks to a photo visible on Street View, Google finally blurred the photo in question, as noted by Tech&Co.
This Wednesday, December 18, a murder case would be on the verge of being elucidated by the Spanish authorities, reports the daily El Pais. To achieve this feat in this disappearance dating back to November 2023, the local police were able to use Street View, a view from Google Maps which allows you to see photos taken by the search giant’s cars.
A photo now blurred
On one of them, we can see a man putting away what appears to be a body in the trunk of a vehicle. The photo, which was taken in the small town of Tajueco in Spain, led to two suspects being arrested and the dismembered body of a Cuban man found in a nearby cemetery. The photo in question has since been blurred by Google, but we can still see the suspect… somehow.
According to Tech&Co’s findings, instead of the body placed in the trunk, large squares blurring the action were added by Google. But if we go back a little into the street, we can still see the suspect, who comes down from the street with a wheelbarrow on which is the body of the alleged victim.
The police, however, explained that other clues would nevertheless have allowed the arrest of the victim’s wife and another man – probably her lover -, in particular telephone tapping.
The story is unusual: Google Maps cars had not passed through this small village of a few dozen inhabitants since 2009. By an incredible combination of circumstances, one of them passed through there again shortly after the murder.
The publication containing the photo and highlighting this case has been viewed several million times on X.
