Football: What profile for the future coach of Yverdon?

It is a press release that remains. On October 30, 2023, a Monday, Marco Schällibaum learned that he was no longer the coach of Yverdon Sport, despite promotion to the Super League, despite a good start to the season.

To the press, the North Vaudois club advanced the “long-term development process of the club and more specifically a new philosophy”. A few days later, sporting director Filippo Giovagnoli justified the hiring of Alessandro Mangiarratti because he was a “modern coach”.

Fourteen months later, Mangiarratti is no longer Yverdon’s coach. This time, it’s the results that are the reason. Not the profile. Still, this needs to be defined. What are the leaders of the Municipal club looking for next?

The sketch of the future coach has not been drawn. But we must remember that this is not the approach that is fundamentally lacking. Mangiarratti has sometimes had very ambitious ideas, before curbing them, perhaps due to a workforce that was not always up to par. It seems difficult to imagine Giovagnoli and president Jeffrey Saunders wanting to follow this line, and go and dig up a technician who is more modern than modern, who claims very dominant football.

This would be a contradiction in terms of the Yverdon contingent, unless we upset them once again during the winter transfer window. Which frankly wouldn’t be very smart, knowing that it would be better for the future coach not to waste time, Yverdon only having two points ahead of the 11th Grasshopper, and four over the red lantern Winterthur.

So what kind of coach is YS going to appoint? It would not be surprising if a very results-oriented technician, capable of earning points in resilience, is chosen.

In this context, it is not very, very surprising to see the name of Paolo Tramezzani circulating, the man who took charge of FC Sion three times and who therefore knows Swiss football. The 54-year-old Italian has just been dismissed from his position by the Croatian club Istria. Coincidence?
