On Sunday, December 8, 2024, the general meeting of Barthes d’Ibusty was held at the Salle d’Ibusty de Mouguerre.

As a preamble, President François Lafargue recalled the statutes of the Barthes union, an association dating from 1928.

The moral report was made by Jean-Pierre Bollet, secretary, with questions on the hydraulic studies before the work, then the treasurer Alain Labat presented the financial report.

Cash flow is relatively healthy, despite some unpaid contributions. The largest contributor, owner of the salt works, is liable for an arrears of four years, following a change of ownership.

During the general assembly, it was recalled that residents of the European Freight Center are opposed to its extension, worried about the risk of flooding. The Barthes de Mouguerre association asked the authorities to communicate the hydraulic studies in progress.

Preventing ice jams

The association reminded residents of streams to avoid throwing grass clippings and branches there, to prevent ice jams (obstruction of the stream bed) and made the request – before any start of embankment – of the creation of a pumping station which would discharge rainwater into the Adour.

Major work was undertaken on the former site of the heavy goods vehicle technical inspection center and on the Terega company depot, for the construction of the -Ferries terminal.

The Enovis establishment project will not be carried out on the Barthes de Mouguerre but on the site of the former Mousserolles foundries in .

In conclusion, the association would like to preserve the remaining Barthes. It wants to protect this natural environment, rich in its biodiversity, which allows rain to be stored before reaching the Adour via the various small canals (watergangs), created by the Dutch and managed for generations by local residents in order to fully ensure its role of flood regulator of the Adour during high tides. She is concerned that this work will undermine the effective flood control mechanism in the region.
