The Saint-Jean establishment in Mauron (Morbihan) has been closed since the opening of the Papillon d’Or nursing home 12 years ago, but the building should finally know a new life from 2026. The first work began this fall.

Until the end of March 2025, the companies are cleaning the premises and deconstructing two built parts. The construction of the 25 hoped-for housing units should be completed in 2026. “We are confident since the work has started. The content and deadlines do not depend on the town hall!

“Located on rue Paul Maullion, close to the center and administrations, the buildings were for sale without finding a buyer” recalls Yves Chasles, the mayor of Mauron.

The Mauron town hall has positioned itself

“It is in 2021 that the town hall has positioned itself so that the real estate complex, which represents 1,200 square meters on three levelsfinds a use again. We were selected for funding under the State’s brownfield fund for the decontamination of the site and its cleaning,” underlines the mayor.

The municipality does not have the means to purchase this complex; the EPFB (Etablissement Public Foncier de Bretagne) will take care of it. Everything will be handed over to the selected promoter after the first stage

A rental project

“It’s a virtuous project which will reuse an ensemble with a façade of character. It will be suitable for housing of varying sizes, for rental and access to property, on both buildings” indicates Jean-Luc Eon, works assistant.

“Intergenerational, qualitative and well located, it will cover part of the rental needs expressed in Mauron. The investor who is chosen will have choices to offer but individuals and local businesses are interested in rental properties, which are lacking in Mauron.
