The New York Yankees have significantly improved their pitching rotation by signing free agent Max Fried.

On Tuesday, the Bronx Bombers announced that they had offered the 30-year-old an eight-year contract. According to MLB.com, the deal is worth a total of $218 million.

It was the largest amount awarded to a left-handed gunner and the fourth largest contract in major league history for a pitcher. Only Shohei Ohtani (10 years, $700 million), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (12 years, $325 million) and Gerrit Cole (9 years, $324 million) got more.

Fried is therefore leaving the Atlanta Braves organization, with which he played for the last eight seasons. In 29 starts in 2024, he had an 11-10 record and a 3.25 ERA.

The California native has been invited twice (2022 and 2024) to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and won a Gold Glove three times (2020, 2021 and 2022). He also won the World Series with the Braves in 2021.

Still according to MLB.com, Fried was also in the sights of the Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox.
