Since 2017, idGarages.com has analyzed the prices of automobile repairs in France. Although prices tend to become more uniform thanks to digital tools making it easier to compare between garages, this year’s study shows a gap of 11 points between the most expensive and least expensive regionor 5 points more than in 2023. Occitanie becomes the cheapest regionreplacing Burgundy-Franche-Comté, while Île-de-France remains the most expensivefollowed closely by Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, where additional costs and high margins from garages increase prices.
The capital is panicking
In 2023, Île-de-France, largely influenced by Paris, remains the most expensive region, with an average cost €46.76 higher than the national average. This trend persists, notably due to the marked increase in prices in Paris. A disparity is also observed within the region: Seine-Saint-Denis displays prices 8 points below the regional averagewhile Paris is 10 points above.
The annual idGarages.com barometer also analyzes the prices of the main automobile services. In 2024, a general overhaul costs on average 332.87 euros, compared to 294 euros in 2023an increase of 13.22 euros. Normandy offers the lowest prices (319.13 euros), while Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is the most expensive (351.24 euros). Although inflation in 2023 caused an increase in prices, the increase is more moderate in 2024 (+7.64% compared to +11.51% in 2023). Garages try to stabilize their prices to remain competitive while preserving their profitability.
Coins add to the bill
Services involving changes of parts, such as braking (front discs and pads +20.63%), are particularly affected. Conversely, the comparator observes a slight change in prices for services with all-inclusive packages, such as air conditioning overhaul (+5.75%), and those which would mainly involve labor, such as descaling engine, the price of which remains almost stable (+0.31% compared to 2023).
Price increases that can be explained

More than ever, price transparency and clarity of quotes are essential to avoid unpleasant surprises. Professionals in the sector must strive to find a balance between profitability and customer satisfaction, continuing to evolve through innovation, and optimizing their processes to contain costs. »
The idGarages method
The ranking produced by idGarages was established by comparing the average prices by region to the national average price, based on 2 million quotes generated in the first half of 2024 on idGarages.com, i.e. a sampling of vehicles representative of the French market. These quotes were carried out in more than 4,300 independent garages, brand agents, car centers, multi-brand stores, throughout France.
