A septuagenarian and her granddaughter were victims, Monday, June 19, of a violent attack in Bordeaux. The video of the scene has been shared on social networks and is attracting a lot of comments. The suspect was taken into custody.
A septuagenarian and her granddaughter suffered Monday, June 19, at 5:20 p.m., an attack in the entrance to the home of the elderly person, located in Cours de la Martinique, in the Chartrons district of Bordeaux.
The scene was filmed by a surveillance camera and then widely relayed on social networks since the evening.
We see the 73-year-old lady and her 7-year-old granddaughter on the doorstep, looking at the street, then entering the lobby of their building. A few meters away, a man seems to be watching them and leaps into the doorway. He then violently throws the two people onto the sidewalk, separating the child from his grandmother. He then picks up an object that has fallen on the ground before running away. The two victims are on the ground, and visibly shocked.
According to the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office, it was a dog which, by its barking, put the author to flight. A neighbor who witnessed the scene alerted the police. The anti-crime squad quickly arrived on the scene. Looking at the footage of the attack, she quickly identified the suspect, described as having fled in a black Renault Clio. The police arrested him an hour after the incident.
He is a 29-year-old man, born July 12, 1993 in Bordeaux, of French nationality, homeless. “The man was very agitated and resistant to his arrest”, says the prosecution. He was immediately taken into custody.
For now, the defendant denies the facts. Placed under guardianship, he indicates that he is being monitored psychiatrically and is out of treatment.

The man is known to the police and justice and has already been convicted fifteen times “for road disputes and offenses against narcotics legislation“, specifies the prosecutor. An investigation has been opened for violence against a vulnerable person, violence against a minor, invasion of the home and attempted kidnapping.
The 73-year-old grandmother suffered head, kick and foot injuries. She was able to leave the hospital with an ITT evaluated at four days.
A wave of indignation
An agression “of rare violence” took place late Monday afternoon against a 73-year-old woman, at her home and her granddaughter, a minor child under 15, tweeted the Gironde prefecture at 12:49 a.m.
“The video exploitation by the police and the statements of a witness allowed a very rapid arrest and the detention of a suspect“, indicated the prefect, who “denounces this intolerable act and hopes that all the light will be shed as soon as possible”.
The images of the attack were broadcast on social networks by the Info Bordeaux site, a site close to the far right, and widely shared and commented on. The government spokesman, Olivier Véran, expressed on Tuesday June 20 “his strong emotion”considering that the elderly victim could “to be our grandmother to all”. The minister told CNews that the perpetrator of the assault faces up to ten years in prison for “aggravated violence”.
Part of the Bordeaux political class commented on the facts on Monday evening. “Unbearable images of the aggression of a grandmother and her granddaughter (…) I send them all my support”said Nicolas Florian, former LR mayor of Bordeaux, in a tweet, calling “to the greatest severity in the penal response”.
Several far-right officials were also quick to react to the video.”How awful. Bordeaux today. This is what they have done to our country. French, wake up”, tweeted Eric Zemmour, ex-candidate of Reconquest! .
“Another aggression in #Bordeaux! Mr. @GDarmanin, when are you going to open your eyes to the savagery that plagues our society?”declared on the same social network the deputy Rassemblement national de Gironde Edwige Diaz.
