Four departments were placed in orange vigilance for floods on the sidelines of the passage of the Herminia storm on the western facade of the country.
This is one of the consequences of the Herminia storm. Among the nine orange vigilance departments this Sunday, January 26, Calvados, Ille-et-Vilaine and Mayenne have been since Saturday due to the risk of floods. A fourth, the Orne, was added to this list at 10 am this Sunday.
The rivers began to overflow on Saturday evening in these departments. In Rennes, it was the Ille-et-Rance canal, north of the Breton city, which came out of its bed. Several residents have seen their vehicle or their home be trapped by water, forcing some to evacuate the area.
Evacuation decree
“An evacuation decree has just been taken by the city of Rennes, in connection with the departmental operational center of the prefecture”, announces on X the municipality. “Residents must leave their home and favor accommodation with relatives,” she adds. Two gymnasiums were also made available to the victims who could not be relocated.
“There are about 1.80 water in the garage (…) The firefighters told us that it was going to continue to go up to this afternoon,” said a resident at the BFMTV microphone.
According to Vigicrues, the levels reached on the Ille-et-Raper canal are “similar to those of the floods of May 1981 and January 1995”.
-The city of Rennes has activated its communal safeguard plan and set up a crisis cell, placed under the authority of mayor Nathalie Appéré.
40 cm of water in the garden
The water is also mounted in Calvados, where the dives and the Orne are classified orange. In Mézidon Vallée d'Auge, Jean-Michel Lancien, a restaurateur met by BFMTV, had to close the doors of his establishment where several centimeters of water accumulated.
In Mayenne, it is the eponymous river that came out of its bed, especially changed on the edge of Laval. A resident interviewed by BFMTV noted 40 centimeters of water in his garden. “If it continues, we will have to find an emergency solution,” said another resident who has a guest house in the flooded area.
According to Vigicrues, “a first flood peak should be reached in the morning of Sunday” in Mayenne “but the repeated rains will slow down the decline in the river, see will generate new increases depending on the sectors”.
