A horse stolen in a meadow from a private individual in the Gard: “We are afraid that it is for meat trafficking”

Volta, an 18-year-old horse, was stolen during the night of Monday January 20 to Tuesday January 21, from a private individual in Bouillargues.

“It was the last wish of its owner”. Laura Affortit, president of the Leshorses of Eden association, based in Marguerittes, is revolted. Volta, a horse whose owner died at the end of the year, found himself, during the administrative procedures, boarded with a private individual in Bouillargues. “We had to recover Volta, as well as this gentleman’s two other horses to take care of her”she explains. But on the night of Monday January 20 to Tuesday January 21, Volta was stolen from the meadow.

Health problems

Immediately, a complaint was filed with the Bouillargues gendarmerie. For the moment, no individual has been arrested. Laura Affortit says she is worried about the health of the horse, aged 18… “He is known to have foot problems regularly. If it is not treated, it can become serious”she explains, while adding: “What I don’t understand is that he’s not the youngest horse, nor the most attractive. What we’re afraid of is that he was stolen for meat trafficking…”.

However, the president of the Leshorses of Eden association does not lose hope: “A few years ago, the French justice system contacted us about a horse that they had found. In the end, we realized that he had been stolen in Portugal. He was therefore able to reunite with his family. We says that if it was possible in that sense, it could also be possible in the other, with the return of Volta…”she says, like a cry for help.
