Ghana turns the page on the “SADR”: A new lease of life for relations with Morocco

Ghana’s recent decision to suspend its relations with the so-called “SADR” marks an important step in rapprochement with Morocco. For Albert Kofi Owusu, Director General of the Ghana Press Agency (GNA), this development bodes well for intensifying cooperation between Rabat and Accra in several strategic sectors.

This dynamic strengthens already strong bilateral relations and opens up new perspectives in key areas such as agriculture, engineering, higher education and energy. Morocco, recognized for its commitment to development in Africa, positions itself as a strategic partner for Ghana.

The announcement comes on the sidelines of the 8th General Assembly of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), which brings together the leaders of the main African press agencies in Salé. This meeting, focused on strengthening the health sovereignty of the continent, underlines the essential role of cooperation between African countries.

With this decision, Ghana reaffirms its desire to strengthen its ties with Morocco and anchor its diplomacy in a logic of pragmatic partnership. An orientation which is part of a broader vision of African cooperation based on economic development and regional integration.
