A decree from the Minister of the Interior published this Thursday in the Official Journal prohibits Marseille supporters from coming to Nice on Sunday.
Supporters of Olympique de Marseille are prohibited from traveling on Sunday to attend the match between OM and Nice during the 19th day of Ligue 1, according to an order from the Minister of the Interior published Thursday in the Official Journal.
The decree mentions “a real and serious risk of clashes between Nice and Marseille supporters” on the occasion of the meeting between the two teams, Sunday at 8:45 p.m., at the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
“Relations between supporters” of these two formations are “imprints of animosity for many, many years” and this “strong antagonism has repeatedly resulted in serious clashes”says the text.
Sunday “zero hour to midnight, individual or collective travel, by any means, of any person claiming to be a supporter of Olympique de Marseille or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the Bouches-du-department Rhône, on the one hand, and the commune of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), on the other hand”.
OM's movements are “very frequently a source of disturbances to public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters”,
-The decree argues that on the one hand the movements of OM are “very frequently a source of disturbances to public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters”and that on the other hand, “certain supporters” of Nice “frequently adopt violent behavior, manifested around and within stadiums”.
As an example, the decree cites an incident that occurred on October 21, 2023 when “two individuals wearing a blue jacket, mistaken by the Nice supporters for Marseille supporters, had to jump onto the playing area to flee a hostile crowd movement, leading to the intervention of the stewards”.
In August 2022 in Nice, three buses carrying Marseille supporters also violated travel ban measures and “were intercepted by the national gendarmerie then escorted back to Marseille”according to the same source.
