Tuesday January 21, 2025 in the morning, sheep breeders in the south of the Channel discovered that their flock had been attacked. All are located south of the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.
In the small town of Céaux, at the bottom of the bay, Raphaël Morin took in the scale of the carnage on Tuesday and until the end of the day on Wednesday.
Animals eaten on site
The young salt marsh sheep breeder counted two “predated” sheep, in other words eaten, four ewes and three lambs were injured, others were injured or died “as collateral victims”. “The animals were surrounded and then got stuck.”
I saw the wolf about 150 meters away in the grass, for almost a quarter of an hour. I discovered the dead animals while doing my work, around 8:30 a.m. I found injured and other dead people after being bogged down until the end of the day, for about 800 meters. This Wednesday morning, three OFB agents came. They confirmed to me that it was indeed wolf. I found prints.
Two other herds attacked in the south of the Channel
In Marcilly and Le Mesnil-Ozenne, near Ducey-Les Chéris, two other breeders are concerned. If the Céaux breeder has seen the animal, for them, the report from the French Biodiversity Office must confirm whether it is a wolf.
-Three sheep were attacked, one was found dead, two others were injured, as well as ewes. The French Biodiversity Office visited yesterday evening (Tuesday, Editor's note). They took photos, they autopsied the remains, without saying more. We should know within eight days if it is a wolf.
Attacks revive fear of wolves
Each sheep attack revives the fear of wolves.
On the night of Sunday April 14 to Monday April 15, 2024, a sheep was killed in Genêts, on the north side of the bay. Ten days later, the French Biodiversity Office concluded that the wolf was not the author of this attack.
This Monday, January 20, 2025, the prefecture of Seine-Maritime put forward the hypothesis of the return of the wolf in this department of Normandy.
