Marçais learned with sadness, this Wednesday, January 22 in the morning, of the death of one of his family, Gabriel Yacoub, at the age of 72.
Singer, songwriter, musician and performer, this Paris native was a recognized and appreciated figure in folk Music, folk rock and progressive rock. His career, which began alongside Alan Stivell, was notably marked by the creation of Malicorne, a legendary group which had toured the international stages for around ten years, from 1973, reforming in 2010 in its original configuration. during an exceptional concert at the Francofolies de La Rochelle, then with new musicians again, from 2011 to 2017.
Appointed Officer of Arts and Letters
Gabriel Yacoub had, moreover, had an equally remarkable solo career, with numerous productions and contributions, among others for the soundtrack of the film Océans, by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud.
Also a writer and visual artist, he expressed his attachment to Boischaut in a book entitled I will stay here, so-called “subjective and random” chronicles, published in 2019, and exhibited his plates, boxes, prints and relics in several cultural places in Berry as well as in his Maison des Plantes, in Marçais.
-Gabriel Yacoub also initiated the Music Festival in his village of Marçais. “He brought his friends over, it was always an extraordinary and joyful moment, which served as a reunion for them and even sometimes as rehearsals for their many projects,” shares Michelle Rivet, mayor.
Gabriel Yacoub was appointed officer of Arts and Letters in 2013.
