The Gers departmental fire and rescue service presented its activity report for the past year. The number of interventions is down slightly compared to 2023.
“We ended our operational year with a slightly downward balance.” This is the observation drawn up by senior colonel Jean-Louis Ferres this Tuesday, January 21, on the occasion of the greeting ceremony of the departmental fire and rescue service of Gers (SDIS 32). A ceremony which traditionally serves as a framework for the presentation of the activity report of the past year, and which was held in the presence of the president of the Department Philippe Dupouy, the president of SDIS 32 Bernard Gendre and the cabinet director of the prefect, Julie David.
For the year 2024, SDIS 32 recorded 13,315 interventions, or one intervention every 39 minutes in the department, a total down 9.3% compared to the previous year (14,561). It must be said that the year 2023 had been “punctuated by numerous climatic hazards which had generated a huge number of interventions, around 1,200”, as the director of SDIS 32 explains. If the number of interventions linked to the weather has therefore decreased significantly, that linked to interventions relating to personal assistance is “continuously increasing”. Colonel Ferres targets in particular road accidents, the black spot of the year 2024 in the Gers, calling on the Gersois to be more “cautious and vigilant”.

A sign of the permanent activity of SDIS 32, no less than 34,893 calls were processed last year (for 52,296 calls received), or around a hundred calls per day on average. This allowed 11,321 victims to be rescued, with SDIS 32 counting 1,117 emergency care protocols. The average time for the departure of the first machine is 7' 20” and that for the arrival of emergency services is 17' 05”. “We will have difficulty falling below these figures which are excellent,” says Jean-Louis Ferres.
Objective: 30% women in 2025
In terms of human resources, SDIS 32 brings together 1,262 firefighters and an overwhelming majority of volunteers, with only 86 professionals listed. “We are reaching 28% feminization in our ranks. We aim to cross the 30% mark by the year 2025 and to be the very first SDIS in terms of feminization in France,” specifies the director of SDIS 32 In terms of training, we note that more than 3,000 people were made aware of or trained in life-saving actions last year.
Regarding infrastructure, the colonel took advantage of this report to recall the major projects of the past year. Some have been completed, such as the construction of the Montesquiou CIS or the rehabilitation of the Miradoux and Barcelonne-du-Gers centers, others are still in progress. The year 2025 will be notably marked by the construction of three new centers: Plaisance, Mauvezin and Auch, the cost of the latter being estimated at 3 million euros.
