A shadow hangs over the electric Renault 5 E-Tech. As Caradisiac relays, several owners have reported a most unpleasant breakdown on several forums of the French car manufacturer.
First breakdowns for the Renault 5 E-Tech
Since January 2025, owners of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric have shared technical problems on the official forums. The most frequently reported incident concerns vehicle immobilization: he becomes impossible for the owner to put their vehicle in driving mode (D or R), it remaining stuck in its neutral mode (N).
Renault reacted by publishing a temporary procedure to resolve the problem on one of its forums in waiting for a software updateeither a manual restart: close the vehicle, walk away for 20 to 30 minutes, then wait for the electronic systems to reset.
More sales than Tesla's Model Y since launch
Let's hope for the owners and the manufacturer Renault that these first reports are isolated, the R5 E-Tech being so far a real success story.
Thanks to its retro design and performance, Renault's new champion has already managed to attract more than 10,000 French people since its launch in the fall of 2024thus surpassing the sales of Tesla Model Y (7,984 units sold over the November-December period) and at the same time winning the famous Car of the Year 2025 award on January 10, 2025.
