Little Émile Soleil may well be buried in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet on February 8. His parents had made the request to the Vernet municipal council, which accepted it on January 18. A formal agreement, since the law allows any person who dies in a municipality to have a burial there.

On the other hand, according to BFMTV, the parents' request to be buried next to their child has, to date, not received a favorable opinion from the municipality. The parents do not live in this commune of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the creation of a collective vault is therefore not automatic. “What is stopping them from having this funeral in ? » (where the parents live), asks a municipal councilor to the news channel. “This little one, he perhaps suffered the last minutes of his life in Vernet and there, he would be buried here, far from his family… I have a hard time getting used to it.”

Investigation still ongoing

Emile disappeared on July 8, 2023. His bones were discovered by a hiker on March 30, 2024. But the circumstances of his death have not been resolved and the investigation is still ongoing. This lack of certainty would also explain the caution with which the parents' request is treated.

Contacted by BFMTV, Mayor François Balique did not wish to comment. A new municipal council could be convened to decide the question in the coming days. In the event of refusal for the future burial of the parents, they could in fact decide not to bury their child in Vernet.
