We saw it on Monday at the inauguration of Donald Trump, when the ceremony had to take place inside and not outside the Capitol, as tradition dictates, because of the polar cold… Like Washington, an arctic air flow extends across much of Canada and the United States.

This cold snap could bring temperatures down to levels that these regions have not seen in some places for several decades. It could thus be below 0°F (-17.8°C) in the American capital, for the first time since January 1994. Snow is even expected as far as Louisiana.

In Europe, it’s a completely different story. According to MétéoSuisse, the Old Continent is entering a period of mild weather. And Switzerland is obviously no exception.

But before shedding a layer, we will experience a brief episode of freezing rain on Wednesday morning, explains Lionel Fontannaz, forecaster. And if the risk is limited, you will have to exercise caution on the roads.

The arrival of warm air will occur during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, and with it, its share of precipitation. Thus, between 10 and 15 cm of new snow will fall above 1800 m north of the Alps and at 1500 m in the Alps.

And thanks in particular to sunny weather, temperatures will rise to 10 degrees in the plains and mid-mountains on Friday. 12 degrees will be reached on Saturday. As for the fog, the meteorologist says, “we shouldn’t see it again at least until February.” Phew!
