The ax has fallen for the employees of the chemical platform. The Arkema company announced on Tuesday January 21 that it was considering eliminating 154 of the 344 positions at its Jarrie (Isère) factory, as a result of a refocusing of the site, caused by the difficulties of its salt supplier Vencorex.

“The Jarrie site has been impacted since October 23, 2024 by the sudden cessation of its salt supply by its historic supplier Vencorex, placed in receivership by its Thai shareholder PTT GC”justified the group in a press release.

Impacted by the shutdown of the Vencorex site which no longer delivers the salts necessary for certain productions, the southern part of the platform could close. Employees voted for a general shutdown of the factory on January 13 to demand answers from Arkema on the planned job cuts.

The unions at the Jarrie factory had, on several occasions, called on the State to nationalize the site. Because the crisis affecting Arkema and Vencorex, in receivership, poses the risk of a domino effect throughout the chemicals sector which employs more than 6,000 employees in the south of the metropolitan area.
