The fight is underway in the largest commune in Normandy, Souleuvre-en-Bocage. Indeed, since elected officials voted on the principle of setting up a municipal postal agency in place of the Laternothing is going well anymore. On the one hand, the municipal council which remains firm in its position of offering the population an alternative to the disappearance of this public service and the collective for the defense of public services which say no to the project which could be effective next June.
After having informed and expressed its dissatisfaction and its wish to oppose a decision which seems untouchable for elected officials, the collective continues the fight. Strengthened by what happened Ver-sur-Mer, 12 years ago, where the post office was saved thanks to mobilization.
“We must not believe that Vire is safe”
In this new year, the president of the collective Jean Ferrette announces the latest steps taken:
We asked CADA* for the list of voters in the municipality in order to be able to hold a referendum. We already have the support of 13 deputies, 3 senators, 5 mayors
-
The president believes that throughout France, post offices are being undermined with their gradual disappearance.
We must not believe that Vire is immune. There is dematerialization, we can no longer open an account in Beny's office. We were sent to Vire and Vire, we were told that we had to go on the Internet. Regarding mail, of course there is less mail, but is it not the role of a public service to take care of it, even if the service is no longer profitable?
A point of view shared by the National Convergence of collectives for the defense and development of public services. A meeting is organized at Paristhis Wednesday, January 22, 2025, to plan a national demonstration against the closure of post offices. “This event could take place at Bény-Bocage,” assures Jean Ferrette. To be continued…
