Winner after Gaël Monfils retired in the round of 16 of the Australian Open, on 20e player Ben Shelton revealed what the 38-year-old Frenchman said to him during their very nice hug at the net.
“During our hug at the net after he retired, he said to me: 'Man, I told you, I told you, playing against you in a Grand Slam, it's just too physical, too physical (smile)'. But, I mean, we're friends. We've joked about this in the past. He always told me that if we played each other in a best-of-three set he would blow my head off, but in a best-of-five it could get tricky, because I think I do certain things on the court that can make the physical things for the guy I'm playing against. »
For a place in the last four, the American will face Lorenzo Sonego on Wednesday in Melbourne.
