Quebec is under a dome of bitter cold which should prevent the formation of significant systems this week. Forecasts.
A stingy atmospheric context
A descent of arctic air entered the province on Sunday. Feelings below -30 were also observed in the morning, particularly in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This surge of cold air has not said its last word: its presence will be felt across the province until the end of the week.
Thus, the probability of seeing strong systems winning Quebec this week is drastically reduced. With the exception of eastern Quebec, which could receive up to 25 cm by Monday due to a weather bomb, most regions are not expected to receive significant amounts of snow for a long time. However, the cold weather would be accompanied by a good dose of sunshine.
Not very thick, this white carpet
It is unanimous: all regions of Quebec are suffering from a lack of snow. Only the northern regions of the province enjoy a white carpet a little more than thirty centimeters thick, including Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the Côte -North.

The further south one moves, the thinner the carpet becomes. At the Quebec airport, only 15 cm covers the ground, which is insufficient for skiing on the Plains of Abraham. Worse still, we’re only talking about a few centimeters at the Montreal airport. Remember that normally, around 44 cm of snow covers the ground in the Capitale-Nationale region at this time of year. As for Montreal, a little more than ten. A small clipper from Alberta could generate light showers mid-week, but we’re still only talking about a few centimeters, at most.
The Gaspé Peninsula would therefore be the only winning region this week: the ten centimeters expected by Monday should thicken the white carpet which is less than 5 cm at the time of writing these lines.
