According to a report from the police headquarters, 500 royalist demonstrators took part in a torch march on Saturday evening in before the anniversary of the death of Louis XVI, guillotined on January 21, 1793. A procession denounced by LFI deputies.

Headed by a portrait of the king, a procession paid tribute on Saturday evening in Paris to the sovereign who was guillotined during the French Revolution. A gathering organized by the Association for the Remembrance of Louis XVI, linked to the far-right royalist movement Action Française.

Contacted, the police headquarters indicated to France 3 Paris Île-de-France that “500 people participated in this demonstration, which was not subject to a prefectural ban“. The participants gathered on the square of the Saint-Augustin church before a torchlight march towards the expiatory chapel, in the 8th arrondissement.

Fleurs de lys, banner displaying the face of the king… According to several publications on X, the demonstrators repeated slogans like “Paris, royalist!“, “Everyone hates the Republic“, or “Long live the King! Down with the republic!“.

LFI deputies denounced the gathering onHundreds of far-right activists, linked to the anti-Semites of Action Française, marched this evening in KuKluxKlan mode in the streets of Paris in homage to Louis XVI“, writes Raphaël Arnault, publishing a video of the procession.

Antoine Léaument, for his part, published a portrait of Robsepierre as well as the tricolor flag of the French Republic, commenting that the demonstrators “hate both“.

The event, already organized by the royalist association in recent years in Paris, takes place as the death of Louis XVI approaches, executed on January 21, 1793.
