A few days ago, members of the Departmental Federation of Farmers' Unions (FDSEA) 35 and Young Farmers (JA) 35 met at Bain-de-Bretagne (Ille-et-Vilaine) in order to present their candidates and launch their campaign. From January 15 to 31, 2025farmers are called upon to vote for appoint their representatives to the Chamber of Agriculture of Ille-et-Vilaine. This election takes place every six years.

Ille-et-Vilaine: farmers on the electoral campaign

It is in a particular context that this umpteenth election will take place, after more than a year of mobilizations in . These are more than 45,000 voters who are invited to vote during these few days. Farmers, but also agricultural employees and retirees.

“This election, crucial for the future of departmental agriculture, will take place via a mixed ballot, by mail or online »explains Cédric Henry, president of FDSEA 35 and farmer in Paimpont.

For this new election, the challenge is to stabilize or even increase the number of voters. “We are one of the rare sectors where we still vote quite a bit. But six years ago, we recorded 40% voters,” figures Loïc Guines, outgoing president of the Chamber of Agriculture of Ille-et-Vilaine.

Without forgetting the issue of representativeness with state authorities.

The four missions of the Chamber of Agriculture

Together, the members of the Chamber of Agriculture of Ille-et-Vilaine have the mission of focusing on four important points.

Our priorities are viable installation and with as many young people as possible, being good at one's job, knowing how to make a living from it and being considered, ensuring good income from our farms and finally, maintaining and promoting breeding.

To be elected to the Chamber of Agriculture, you must therefore be versatile. 18 positions are available as well as two substitute positions. “All productions are represented,” he adds.

Among the candidates present today, we find Cedric Henry, Loïc Guines, Charles Fossé farmer in Langon and Isabelle Coué farmer in Val-d'Anast.

Soon new mobilizations?

A few hours before this meeting, Prime Minister François Bayrou met with the national presidents of the four farmers' unions to listen to their wishes. The candidates present in Bain-de-Bretagne were therefore able to react to this interview and position themselves for the future of farmers.

“We met the deputies at the end of 2024 and we asked them to put the subject of agriculture on top of the pile »specifies Cédric Henry. But the motion of censure and the change of government put everything on hold.

Concerning mobilizations, he does not seem to have planned any at the moment. “We are not going to demonstrate for the sake of demonstrating. We cannot wear out farmers”.
