For the reception of Chatou on Saturday January 18, 2025, the reserve team at Stade Malherbe Caen could count on the reinforcements of several players summoned with the pros in Ajaccio the day before. Thus, Diabé Boulumbu, Gabin Tomé and Léo Miliner were all starters at the kick-off of this meeting which could allow the Rouge et Bleu to at least temporarily get closer to the top of the table in National 3. After a generally dominated match, the players by Romain Leroux emerged victorious from the opposition (2-1).
Malherbe dominant, but joins just before the break
After a period of observation from both teams, SM Caen opened the scoring after Ilyas Miraoui was found on the edge of offside. The Caen striker found his captain Joel Matondo behind, whose shot left the goalkeeper in place (1-0, 15'). In the process, the SMC has a new opportunity, this time against. Miraoui again is found in the depths. He can control and open up an angle to strike, but the ball is not on target. Caen gets most of its chances on the counter afterwards. Gabin Tomé was first blocked at the last moment (25′) then Ilias Miraoui failed to target his acrobatic recovery after a cross from Miliner (27′).
The match gets carried away in stoppage time when Ilyes hits a good ball for Mohamed Hafid who forces the goalkeeper to lie down (45+2).
Chatou then gets a penalty after a handball in the area, but the Caen goalkeeper intervenes to preserve the score. For a time only since on the corner, a new penalty is awarded to Chatou after a contact punished with a yellow card for a Caen player. The penalty was converted this time and Caen was joined after generally dominating the first period (45'+4).
-A big thrill at the end of the match
Caen quickly regains the advantage from a corner after a rebound from Antoine Lepeltier (2-1, 55'). The rest of the second half was in favor of the Caennais who retained possession of the ball, but brought very little danger to the opposing goal. On Chatou's side, efforts are difficult to recover the ball and the SM Caen goalkeeper does not need to work much.
A cold sweat passes through the Caen ranks when, with a drop in concentration, they concede a well-adjusted cross for the attacker who places a beautiful header. The Caen goalkeeper is beaten, but saved by his bar. The ball then bounces on his head and goes out for a corner (72′). Caen wants to take cover with a beautiful free kick obtained after a foul on Léo Miliner at the entrance to the area. The Caennais wants to take justice into his own hands, but his attempt is blocked by the wall (75′). The Rouge et Bleu came close to another penalty against them, but the referee indicated a free kick at the edge of the area (82′).
After a solid match, Romain Leroux's players won for the third time in a row and continued to move away from the red zone in National 3.
