Law enforcement officers were victims of violence on Saturday in . A man, who was “entrenched” in a cellar, shot at the police who “retaliated” and seriously injured him by bullet, we learned from a source close to the case, information confirmed by the public prosecutor's office in Paris.

After filing a complaint for violence committed by an ex-spouse, police officers intervened at the defendant's home, located in the 19th arrondissement, according to the Paris prosecutor's office.

Two open investigations

They “discovered him holed up in a cellar and came under gunfire, to which they returned fire”. According to the same source, the “accused, injured by gunfire, was evacuated to hospital with a life-threatening prognosis”.

Two investigations were opened: one for violence by a (former) spouse, possession of a weapon and attempted intentional homicide against persons holding public authority, entrusted to the 2nd judicial police district of Paris. The other is the charge of violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority, entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the police force.
