“Confidence is shaken” between the socialist elected representatives and the other NFP deputies, said the LFI deputy, who denounces “a departure from the program” of the parliamentary group, after the refusal of the PS to vote on the motion of censure this week.

Will the New Popular Front (NFP) have to continue its journey without the socialists? While the PS did not vote on the motion of censure of the NFP after François Bayrou's general policy declaration, understanding and unity within this parliamentary group are under severe test. Invited to the microphone of Info this Saturday, January 18, Éric Coquerel, elected official of La France insoumise and president of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, spoke about this internal rupture which is taking shape.

The deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis estimated that the socialists “were fooled by the consequences of macronism” and are therefore “discarded” of the NFP. Conversely, LFI remains this “left faithful to its commitments and its voters”he said. For Éric Coquerel, the NFP is not dead: “There are still three of the four parties left” which make it up, namely LFI, the French Communist Party and Les Écologues.

“Convince as many socialists as possible”

The elected official from Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party, however, affirms that the socialists still have a chance to prove their loyalty to the group. They will be expected around the corner during a “catch-up session” with the next budget vote at the end of February or beginning of March. “We hope that enough socialists will vote for the motion of censure”he detailed, explaining that he needed “15 to 20 votes for censorship to pass”. His mission, as well as that of all other NFP deputies, will therefore be “to convince as many socialists as possible, or even the whole group”in order to “do not let Emmanuel Macron continue his policy for three years”.

If the socialists do not vote for this motion, then, “there will be consequences”warned Éric Coquerel. The latter did not refute the possibility of appointing an LFI candidate against a socialist in the context of an election. But for the elected official, the socialists have already committed “a departure from the program [qui] unit» the NFP. “Confidence is shaken”he insists.
