The January 15, 2025the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) has initiated a large payment which will please a lot of French taxpayers. Every year, it's the same ritual: an advance of 60 % on tax credits and reductions is paid. And that's good, because it helps a lot of families to reduce their budget after the expenses they had last year.

Who are these millions of households receiving this support?

More than 9 millions of tax households will receive this tax boost. This is a really welcome measure for those who have made certain expenses qualifying for tax credits. We are talking here, for example, about the salary of a home employee or the costs of looking after children under six years old. Donations to associations and certain rental investments, such as those under the Pinel and Duflot laws, are also taken into account.

On average, each household receives approximately 639 €. This sum comes right at the right time for those who were counting on it in their budget in January.

Didn’t receive your transfer? Here's why

Even if most received their advance without problem, there are always a few exceptions with late or absent payments. Often, it is the fault of bank delays which delay the arrival of money in the account.

If the advance is less than 8 €it does not go by transfer but by postal check, which takes a little more time. And if your bank details are not up to date with the tax authorities, you also risk waiting for a check rather than a direct transfer.

How do you know if you are eligible and anticipate future advances?

To know if you are entitled to this advance, everything depends on what you declared last spring (in 2024). If this is your first time this year with these tax benefits, expect to receive the full tax credit during the following summer, with another advance expected in January 2026.

From 2022some may choose an immediate advance of the tax credit when they employ someone in their home or use personal services, which can be influenced by tax brackets.

Little tips to avoid hassle

To avoid problems with your payment or understand where you stand fiscally, remember to regularly check your tax information via your personal space on impots.gouv.fr. If something is wrong or if you are sure you are eligible but have not received anything, contact the DGFiP directly so they can clear it up.

Delays can be caused by various administrative or banking factors. But generally, the funds arrive a few days or even weeks after the initially planned date.

Managing your tax credits and reductions well can really relieve family budgets in , especially with the increase in benefits. These measures not only provide financial relief but also encourage certain practices such as domestic employment and community support. By remaining attentive and informed about their tax rights, everyone can optimize their financial situation while participating positively in the national economy.
