The conviction of a couple of slumlords, handed down in 2022 by the Criminal Court, was confirmed on appeal. From 2016 to 2020, these forty-year-olds had sublet around thirty apartments at far too high prices to more than seventy people, mainly undocumented women from the Philippines.

As reported by “Le Courrier”, the woman, a Vietnamese, was found guilty of professional usury and aggravated incitement to illegal stays. Her husband, a Swiss of the same origin, is complicit in these offenses. She received two and a half years in prison, including nine months; He was given a suspended fine of 180 days.

The couple will have to pay 1,000 francs in moral damages to the plaintiffs and reimburse them for the overpayment of rent – sums of between 14 francs and 5,655 francs. Their lawyer announced that she would take the matter to the Federal Court.
