A three-month-old infant lost his life Thursday afternoon in still unclear circumstances in Tienen, Flemish Brabant, said the Leuven public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from Het Laatste Nieuws.
Emergency services were alerted around 2:00 p.m. Thursday for a baby in pain in a nursery, said press magistrate Sarah Callewaert. The infant was resuscitated and taken to hospital, where he died.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. A forensic pathologist and the forensic laboratory were requested. An autopsy will be carried out on Friday, adds the Louvain public prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation.
