Mauritania and Senegal have agreed to work to allow the free movement of people and facilitate the conditions of residence and installation of citizens of the two countries.

Mauritania affirmed its commitment to submit to the Senegalese side, before the end of the first quarter of 2025, a proposal including in particular the new conditions for obtaining a residence permit for Senegalese citizens.

In the final communiqué published at the end of the visit of Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to Mauritania, the two countries agreed to establish an operational framework to face the security challenges common to the two countries, particularly in the areas of fight against irregular migration and cross-border organized crime and, in this regard, the Mauritanian side will submit, as soon as possible, a draft agreement on migration to the Senegalese side.

Both sides praised the effective cooperation between the defense and police forces of the two countries to address cross-border security challenges, including the smuggling of drugs and similar substances, the proliferation of weapons, cross-border criminal networks, money laundering. money and others.
