Saturday January 11, 2025, rescue center des Monts d'Aunay, in Calvados, welcomed firefighters and their families to celebrate the patron saint of firefighters, Sainte-Barbe.
The ceremony, hosted by the Union Musicale d'Aunay, began with the review and greeting, before the laying of wreaths in front of the stele. A minute of silence was observed in memory of Sergeant Jacques Marie, former Aunay-sur-Odon firefighter, who died on August 15.
It was in the emergency vehicle room that Captain Alain Bourge, head of the emergency center, then welcomed the officials invited to this ceremony: Freddy Sertin, MP, Coraline Brison-Valognes, vice-president of the board of directors of SDIS 14, Christian Hauret, departmental councilor, Christine Salmon, mayor of Monts d'Aunay, Gérard Leguay, president of PBI, as well as representatives of the SDIS of Calvados.
Increased interventions for Monts d’Aunay firefighters in 2024
Saint-Barbe’s Day is also an opportunity, at the start of each year, to establish the results of the past year in terms of interventions.
In the case of the Aunay rescue center, its firefighters intervened 415 reprises in 2024, compared to 398 in 2023. A total which has therefore once again exceeded the 400 mark, after the sharp decline which had been observed between 2022 and 2023.
In detail, the interventions break down like this: 272 people rescued, 75 accidents on public roads, 49 fires et 19 various operations.
After the Olympics in 2024, the Tour de France in 2025
The Aunais rescue center has a staff of 42 volunteer firefightersincluding 11 women: 1 captain head of center; 7 chief warrant officers; 10 sergeants and master sergeants; 7 corporals and master corporals; 17 sappers.
Added to this workforce are 17 young firefighters in training (JSP), 10 boys and 7 girls. “Some volunteers from the center were part of the columns sent for the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, it was a great experience for them. » Volunteers will also be mobilized during the Tour de France this summer.
Young firefighters, an “important breeding ground” for rescue centers
The captain then congratulated Chief Sergeant Vincent Faroldi, president of the association, for the various manifestations organized during the year, and Sergeant Samuel Eugène, for his time spent voluntarily train the JSP« important breeding ground of a rescue center.”
The JSPs also received compliments from the center head. “I would like to congratulate you for your commitment and your diligence during training and maneuvers. You will join our workforce after your four years of training. I also congratulate the JSPs who participated in the national technical gathering which took place in Angers last July. »
Addressing the firefighters, the captain thanked them for their availabilityand their spouses for “their understanding during your absences for training or interventions”.
The officials invited to speak all paid tribute to the firefighters for their engagement and their dedicationas well as to their families, for their supporttheir patience and their self-sacrifice.
