Anaïs Werestchack, a young replacement doctor, talks about the challenges encountered in South Aveyron. His open letter to the National Assembly is making the rounds on social networks, not without emotion.

According to her testimony relayed on social networks Anaïs Werestchack, a young general practitioner who qualified a year ago, undertook a tour of of medical deserts. Accompanied by her physiotherapist partner, she travels the regions in a converted van to see the realities on the ground.

Their last stopover in South Aveyron highlighted a worrying situation, which Anaïs denounced in an open letter addressed to the National Assembly.

“If I write to you, it is in the hope of making my words heard,” she begins her message. She describes grueling working conditions. “Each day goes by at a pace that leaves me neither time to have a proper lunch nor to go to the toilet.” In this area of several hundred km², where six doctors still practiced a few years ago for more than 6,000 inhabitants, Anaïs finds herself alone, replacing an elderly doctor.

The doctor from Auvergne, originally from Auvergne, speaks of incessant urgent consultations and saturated neighboring hospitals. “How can we accept having to sort out those we are going to treat and the others?” His observation goes further. “Access to care everywhere and for everyone is a big lie. How did we, French people, citizens of the third European power, get there?”

Relayed in a video on social networks, his speech exceeded 200,000 views. By warning about this crisis, Anaïs Werestchack hopes to challenge decision-makers and encourage concrete actions in the face of the scale of medical deserts.
