It would have involved several weeks of struggles and negotiations: in France, the far-right party, the National Rally, has just won the presidency of country friendship groups this Monday, including that of France-Morocco. In recent years, MPs usually agreed to share the presidency of these groups. Which was not the case this year, where disagreements took place for at least twenty countries.
In the absence of a compromise found, a method nicknamed “the turnstile” was finally adopted during a final meeting on Monday: each group, in order of importance, took turns choosing one of the disputed countries. These decisions must still be taken into account during a meeting of the National Assembly scheduled for next week, indicates the AFP.
The entourage of Marine Le Pen, leader of the far right in France, had explained before this meeting that it was a “a major country of diplomacy and economic development” and an “important actor in the fight against immigration”, with a « strong diaspora ». Obtaining it was therefore considered a « signal fort ».The RN also obtained the presidency of the France-Italy friendship group, according to the two deputies. He will also chair that of the United Kingdom, for which negotiations were concluded before Monday.
