BeIN Sports has settled its accounts with the LFP and the broadcasting of Ligue 1, while trying to move forward on the mysterious envelope of 20 million euros.
Last summer was very hot regarding French football and its broadcasting. The call for tenders never resulted in a winner and Vincent Labrune had to extract at the last moment a distribution of the rights of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. BeIN Sports recovered a Ligue 1 match and the entire Ligue 2, while DAZN bought 8 matches of the elite. The Qatari channel was, however, initially singled out for payment delays, because in the 100 million euros bet on Ligue 1, there was 80 ME for broadcasting, and 20 ME for an obscure sponsorship deal in all clubs.
20 million still outstanding
According to journalist Abdellah Boulma, two pieces of information came out this Monday about this agreement. Initially, the sports channel settled the entire slate for the broadcast of Ligue 1, namely the 80 million euros. These are now in the accounts of the LFP, which can distribute them according to the planned schedule.
Regarding the sponsorship deal for the remaining 20 million euros, this agreement caused a lot of talk, because it stipulated that Qatari sponsors had to be put forward in each of the clubs. The idea of appearing on the jerseys was rejected from the outset, and this could then be limited to displays around the field or in the stadiums. But things have not changed since, leaving this still copious sum pending.
