Novak Djokovic faced American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy in the first round of the Australian Open.

To everyone's surprise, he conceded the first set 6-4. This is the first time he has lost the first set during his opening round at the Australian Open since 2006.

However, he subsequently rectified his situation, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The step was too high for Basavareddy, who suffered from cramps during the match.

Despite his defeat, he confirms his good progress and should enter the top 100 very soon.

For his part, Djokovic is at 72 consecutive victories in the first round of a Grand Slam. He will face qualifying player Jaime Faria in the second round.
