Novak Djokovic faced American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy in the first round of the Australian Open.
To everyone's surprise, he conceded the first set 6-4. This is the first time he has lost the first set during his opening round at the Australian Open since 2006.
However, he subsequently rectified his situation, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. The step was too high for Basavareddy, who suffered from cramps during the match.
Despite his defeat, he confirms his good progress and should enter the top 100 very soon.
-For his part, Djokovic is at 72 consecutive victories in the first round of a Grand Slam. He will face qualifying player Jaime Faria in the second round.
