A resident of La Breille-les-Pins (Maine-et-Loire) was arrested on Sunday morning January 12, 2025, the day after an intervention by the gendarmes mobilized for several hours. On Saturday January 11, the man fired shots into the air to dissuade hunters from entering his property.
The alert was given at midday when local residents reported detonations in the area. As reported by Ouest-France, according to several testimonies, the man brandished a rifle and fired into the air in order to scare the hunters venturing to the back of his property.
A significant mobilization of the police
Faced with this incident, a major system was put in place by the gendarmerie. In total, 27 soldiers were mobilized, including members of territorial units, the gendarmerie surveillance and intervention platoon (PSIG) as well as the research brigade.
The investigations made it possible to quickly identify the perpetrator of the shooting. He was located in Thouars, in Nord Deux-Sèvres, with an acquaintance where he had found refuge for the night. The arrest, which took place without incident, took place on Sunday morning.
Weapons seized and legal action planned
During the search of his home, the police seized several firearms, some of which were undeclared. Although no one was injured during this episode, legal proceedings were opened for acts of violence with a weapon.
