“These new ambulances illustrate the permanent commitment of the Belgian Red Cross, emergency operator, to do everything possible, both humanly and materially, to guarantee a high quality service to the population,” explains Bruno De Meue, director of the Rescue department. “These ambulances are much more than vehicles. They are essential tools to always be there when someone calls us at 112. With them, we will be able to act in better conditions, to save more and more lives.”

54 000 interventions

The Belgian Red Cross is in fact a major player in urgent medical aid. As an approved emergency organization since 1978, it has 22 departures 112 in Brussels (4) and Wallonia (18), covering the entire Walloon and Brussels territory.

In 2024, more than 54,000 emergency interventions in ambulances 112 have been carried out, demonstrating the crucial importance of this mission. The 6 new 112 ambulances will be put into service on January 15 and will be strategically distributed in the emergency centers of Wallonia, in Braine, Oupeye, Namur, Ghlin, Ougrée, Amay.

The Rescue Department now has a pool of 55 ambulances in operation in Wallonia and wishes to continue its investment in its vehicle fleet in the coming years, to respond to the growing challenges of medical emergencies. To do this, the Belgian Red Cross can count on its ambulance staff, a total of 230 employees and 600 volunteers.
