In , only 40% of citizens are trained in first aid actionsaccording to figures from the French Red Cross. This figure is increasing, but remains lower than those of its European neighbors: 80% in Germany, Austria, Norway and even Denmark.

The training rate of the French saddens Yannick Corvest, president of the Finistère Departmental First Aid Union (UDPS 29) :

“We should promote the people trained in one way or another because it is such an important civic action. Everyone can in fact be faced with a heart attack, a stroke, a wrong turn…”

He also deplores the fact that many schools do not train their students in first aid, due to lack of resources. However, it is an obligation. “A few years ago, I went to colleges a lot, unfortunately this is much less the case. It’s a shame because I think that first aid training begins with youth,” laments Yannick Corvest.

Training of public officials

The UDPS29 provides almost all training in Briec or elsewhere: lifesaving gestures, citizen first aid, team first aid (levels 1 and 2)… and numerous training courses for trainers.

The heart of the activity of the UDPS 29 concerns the aquatic world with the BNS (national water safety and rescue certificate). Yannick Corvest and his trainers also intervene at the request of communities, such as Western or Quimperlé community, to train their agents.

Every month, citizen first aid training is provided by UDPS 29. Price: 60 euros. Supported by the CPF. www.udps29.fr
